The Miami International Boat Show is one of the biggest events on the boating calendar, and for those of us on the Gulf Coast, it's one of the most accessible. Every February, Miami Beach transforms into the ultimate showcase for everything that floats, motors, or sails, and it's only about two and a half hours from Fort Myers.

The Fish Tale Boats team makes the trip to Miami every year, and we always come back fired up about new models, new technology, and new ideas for our customers. This guide has everything you need to plan your own visit: dates, venues, parking, tips, and where to find us at the show.

What Is the Miami International Boat Show?

The Miami International Boat Show has been running for over 80 years, making it one of the oldest and most established boat shows in the country. It's produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and draws hundreds of exhibitors and tens of thousands of visitors each February.

While FLIBS in Fort Lauderdale is known as the largest in-water show globally, Miami holds its own as a powerhouse event with a different flavor. The Convention Center gives manufacturers massive indoor floor space to build elaborate displays, and the surrounding marina venues provide in-water experiences for larger vessels. It's a strong mix of both worlds.

Miami's show also benefits from its timing. February is peak season in South Florida, the weather is ideal, snowbirds are in town, and manufacturers are rolling out their newest models for the coming year. It's often where you'll see brand-new boat designs for the first time, fresh off the assembly line.

The show's reputation draws international buyers and exhibitors, giving it a cosmopolitan energy you won't find at smaller regional shows. It's a big event in a big city, and it delivers accordingly.

What to Expect at the Miami Boat Show

The Convention Center

The Miami Beach Convention Center is the hub of the show. This is where most manufacturers set up their primary displays, including brands like Grady-White, Robalo, Chaparral, and Premier Pontoons. You'll find center consoles, bay boats, pontoons, deck boats, bowriders, and cabin cruisers all under one roof, climate-controlled, which is a nice perk when you're doing a full day of walking.

The Convention Center also houses marine electronics, fishing gear, apparel, engines, and accessory exhibitors. It's easy to spend half a day in the Convention Center alone.

In-Water Displays

The marina venues, Sailor's Cove at IGY Yacht Haven Grande, the Venetian Marina, and Collins Avenue Yacht Collection, are where the bigger boats live. Sportfishers, cruisers, and yachts are tied up at the docks and available for walk-throughs. If you're dreaming big or just want to see what's out there, the in-water venues are worth the trip.

Seminars and Demos

The show features a full schedule of fishing seminars, boating safety courses, and product demos throughout the week. These are typically free with admission and rotate on a daily schedule. Topics range from inshore fishing techniques to marine electronics tutorials to engine maintenance basics. Check the show's schedule online before your visit and flag any sessions that interest you.

Food and Entertainment

Miami being Miami, you won't have trouble finding good food. The Convention Center has vendors inside, and the surrounding area (Collins Avenue, Lincoln Road) is packed with restaurants. Step outside the show for lunch if you want a real meal, you're in one of the best food cities in the country.

The Gear

Even if you already own a boat and aren't in the market for a new one, the Miami show is fantastic for gear shopping. Rod and reel manufacturers, tackle companies, electronics brands, clothing companies, and marine hardware suppliers all set up shop. Many offer show-only pricing and bundles you won't find anywhere else.

Getting There from Southwest Florida

The Drive

Miami Beach is roughly two and a half hours from Fort Myers via I-75 south to Alligator Alley, then east on I-75 (which becomes I-595 briefly before connecting to I-95 south). From Naples, it's about two hours. It's a straightforward drive, and February traffic across the Alley is usually manageable in the morning.

Pro tip: Leave by 7 AM if you're making a day trip. The show opens at noon on Wednesday but 10 AM Thursday through Sunday. Give yourself buffer time for Miami traffic, which can be unpredictable, especially on the causeways leading to Miami Beach.

Parking

Parking on Miami Beach is notoriously tight during the boat show. Here's what works:

  • Remote parking with shuttle service: The show typically sets up remote parking lots with shuttle buses to the Convention Center. This is the least stressful option. Check miamiboatshow.com for lot locations closer to the event.
  • Convention Center garage: Available but fills up early. If you arrive before 9 AM, you might get a spot.
  • Rideshare: Uber and Lyft are reliable in Miami Beach. If you're staying at a hotel nearby, skip the car altogether and rideshare to the show.
  • Street parking: Metered spots exist but are hard to find and time-limited. Not recommended.

Staying Overnight

February is peak tourist season in Miami Beach, which means hotel rates are at their highest. That said, making it an overnight trip is worth it, especially if you want to see both the Convention Center and the in-water venues without rushing.

Book early. Hotels on Miami Beach (Collins Avenue, South Beach, Mid-Beach) put you within walking distance of the Convention Center but come at a premium. More affordable options in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, or Doral are 20–30 minutes away and significantly cheaper. You can also look at Airbnb and VRBO if you're planning ahead.

Tips for Visiting the Miami Boat Show

Pick the Right Day

Wednesday is the shortest day (noon opening) but also the least crowded. Thursday and Friday offer the best balance of full hours and manageable crowds. Saturday is the busiest day by a wide margin. Sunday tends to thin out as the show winds down, and some exhibitors start packing up toward closing, so go earlier in the weekend if you want the full experience.

What to Wear and Bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes, the Convention Center alone is massive, and you'll be on your feet for hours
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses, the marina venues are outdoors, and February sun in Miami is no joke
  • A light layer, the Convention Center air conditioning can be aggressive
  • A small bag or backpack for brochures, catalogs, and any gear you pick up
  • A portable phone charger, you'll be taking photos and texting boat pics to your spouse all day
  • Cash, some food vendors and smaller exhibitors are cash-only

Plan Your Route

Start with the Miami Beach Convention Center. It's the main hub, it has the widest variety, and you can cover a lot of ground efficiently in the climate-controlled space. Once you've worked through the indoor exhibits, head to the in-water venues for the afternoon.

Check the show map and exhibitor list on miamiboatshow.com before you go. Identify the three or four brands or boat types you most want to see, and build your route around those. Then explore whatever catches your eye along the way.

Questions to Ask Dealers

Boat shows are built for conversation. Dealers are there specifically to talk with you, show you around their boats, and answer questions. Don't hold back. Here are a few to get the ball rolling:

  • What's new in this model year compared to last year?
  • What's the all-in price including rigging, electronics, and trailer?
  • What's the warranty coverage, and what does service look like after I buy?
  • How does this model compare to the next size up (or down)?
  • Are there show-specific deals or manufacturer incentives available this week?
  • What's the current lead time from order to delivery?

Take Your Time

It's tempting to rush through and see everything. Don't. Slow down on the boats that interest you most. Sit in the helm seat. Open the hatches. Check the storage. Imagine your fishing rods in the rod holders and your family in the seats. The details matter, and this is one of the few opportunities to compare dozens of boats back to back.

Visit Fish Tale Boats at the Miami Boat Show

We look forward to the Miami show every year, and we'd love to see you there. The Fish Tale Boats team brings representatives who know our brands inside and out, the same people you'd work with at our dealerships in Fort Myers, Naples, and Bonita Springs.

What We're Bringing

We showcase models from Grady-White, Robalo, Chaparral, and Premier Pontoons, including new model-year releases and our most popular sellers. It's a great chance to compare brands and models side by side with our team right there to walk you through the differences.

Check our new boat inventory before the show to see what we carry. We'll share details on the specific models we're bringing to Miami on our website and social media as the show approaches.

Show Pricing and Incentives

Boat shows are one of the best times to buy, period. Manufacturers roll out incentives that are only available during show weekends, special financing rates, package deals, and pricing you won't see the rest of the year. As an authorized dealer for Grady-White, Robalo, Chaparral, and Premier, we pass those manufacturer incentives directly to you.

If you've been on the fence about a purchase, the Miami show is a great time to get serious.

Get Pre-Approved Before You Go

The smartest thing you can do before a boat show is get pre-approved for financing. When you walk in knowing your budget and your monthly payment range, you can focus entirely on finding the right boat. It also puts you in a strong position to take advantage of show pricing before the deals expire.

Trade-In Valuations On-Site

Upgrading? Bring photos and details of your current boat, and our team can talk through trade-in value right at the show. It's a quick way to figure out what stepping up to a new model would really cost you, no obligation, no pressure.

Can't Make It to Miami?

That's completely fine. You can see the same brands and get the same personal attention at any of our three locations across Southwest Florida. Schedule a private walkthrough or a sea trial at your convenience. Contact us and we'll set it up.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are tickets to the Miami Boat Show? Pricing varies by year. Check miamiboatshow.com for the latest ticket prices. Advance online purchase is typically cheaper than buying at the gate. Multi-day and VIP passes are available for those planning to spend more than one day.

Is the Miami Boat Show worth the drive from Fort Myers? Without question. It's one of the biggest boat shows in the country, it's loaded with new models and gear, and it's a two-and-a-half-hour drive. Pair it with a night in Miami and you've got a great boating weekend.

Can I buy a boat at the Miami Boat Show? Yes. Dealers take orders and close deals at the show, and manufacturer incentives make show weekend one of the best times to buy. Come with financing pre-approval and you'll be ready to move if you find the right boat.

What's the best day to visit? Thursday or Friday. You get full hours (10 AM – 7 PM), manageable crowds, and all exhibitors are set up and fully engaged. Wednesday works if you can get to Miami by noon. Avoid Saturday if crowds stress you out.

Is it better to go to the Miami show or FLIBS? They're different experiences, and ideally you'd do both. FLIBS (October) is the bigger in-water show with more vessels on display. Miami (February) has strong indoor exhibits at the Convention Center and a great lineup of new-model-year releases. If you can only pick one, consider which time of year works better for your schedule and whether you prefer indoor or in-water browsing.

Where can I find Fish Tale Boats at the Miami show? Our booth location is assigned a few weeks before the show. Check fishtale.com or follow us on social media for the latest. You can also contact us directly and we'll tell you exactly where to find us.
